The neighbourhood
Parramatta is the 2nd largest business district in Sydney NSW and a major business and commercial centre, including government head offices and the Big 4 Accounting firms. Located on the banks of the Parramatta River and just 23km from the Sydney CBD, Parramatta is the economic capital and major transport hub of Greater Western Sydney.
The city is ethnically diverse with the Church Street being home to a range of quality restaurants, nearby Harris Park famous for its curries, and the fantastic Chinese restaurants e.g. Parramatta Phoenix, Mr. Ping's and Temasek (my all time favourite). I also love 'Thai Riffic on Street' beside the train station. Great lively pub entertainment and food at PJ Gallagher's and The Albion - both recommended. Now with the reopening of Club Parramatta across the road, you are never far away from a great coffee and meals. The Club Parramatta Leagues Club also have good food too. For something different, try the Bavarian Bier Cafe for schnitzels and German beer, or Crinitis for their metre-long pizzas.
Try a morning walk then brunch at Gatehouse Tea Rooms, just across the road in the lovely Parramatta Park. The 85ha park is great for running and cycling, and features gardens, wildlife, play equipment and wide open spaces for games and picnics. Westfield , the 9th largest shopping centre in Australia is only 8 minutes walk away for all your favourite shops and the cinema. The Parramatta Riverside Theatres regularly host shows and events (check online for upcoming schedule).
Only a short express train ride to Sydney, the CBD has plenty to see and experience including the Opera House, dazzling Sydney Harbour, the Rocks with their quaint eaties and pubs, the Friday night markets in China Town and enjoying nightlife at King Street Wharf.

Getting around
To get here from the Domestic or International Airport, join the train downstairs at the airport towards the Central. Transfer at Central Station (4 stops) to platform 3 for a train to Parramatta Station.
Just a short 10 minute walk from the station; follow Argyle Street (walking beside Westfield and then the Office of State Revenue) and turn right into O'Connell Street. At the 2nd corner, you will see the T-junction to Macquarie Street. From there you will see the newly rebuilt Parramatta RSL Club on your right and you are only steps away from apartment (total trip approx 59 mins). If you choose Uber or taxi, it is only under 35 minutes (not in peak times though).
Try the ferry located at the Wharf on Phillip Street if you have the time - the ferry ride with many stops to Sydney's Circular Quay. Free shuttle bus to take you there - every 10mins from Macquarie St West - I tell all my visitors especially to take a harbour ferry to Manly and/or Taronga Zoo. The Sydney Harbour is spectacular any time of year.
Looking for abit of culture, celebrate Chinese Moon Festival also known as Mid Autumn Festival at the University of Sydney on 24 September. There is a chinese saying that the moon is at its fullest when people gather together.
